Privacy Policy

Last updated 11 October 20267 min read

The short version
  • Your logs, triggers and progress stay on your phone. An account is optional.
  • Our server receives anonymous usage statistics that are not linked to your name. In the EU, UK and Switzerland we ask first.
  • AI coaching only sends anything after you say yes, and you can switch it off again.
  • No ads, no ad networks, no selling your data. Ever.

1. Who we are

UrgeLock (“we”, “us”) makes the UrgeLock app for iPhone, iPad and Android and runs urgelock.com. We are based in India. For anything in this policy, including privacy questions and grievances, write to support@urgelock.com and we will reply within 30 days.

2. What stays on your phone

These never leave your device unless you choose to share them:

  • Every cigarette or vape session you log: time, trigger, how strong the urge was, and any note you add.
  • Your setup answers: how much you use a day, what a pack or pod costs, pack size or how long a pod lasts, how soon after waking you use, the moments you would miss most, past quit attempts and your reasons for quitting.
  • Your progress: urges beaten, money saved, targets, streaks and settings.

Deleting the app removes all of it. You can also erase it inside the app at any time: Menu → Account Settings → Delete My Data.

3. What reaches our servers

Anonymous usage statistics

The app sends events such as “app opened”, “setup completed”, “paywall shown”, “purchase completed” and crash messages, together with a random identifier created on your device, the platform and app version. Some events carry the figures you entered at setup, such as how many you smoke a day and your main triggers, so we can see whether the app helps people at different levels of use. These are not linked to your name, email or phone number, and we do not try to identify you from them. In the EU, the UK, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland the app asks first and sends no statistics until you say yes; everywhere else they are on by default. Switch them off or on at any time in Account → Privacy → Anonymous usage statistics. The statistics never include your logs.

Subscriptions

Payments are handled entirely by Apple or Google — we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active; RevenueCat receives a random app user identifier and the purchase information from the store, and tells our server whether Premium is on. That is what stops someone unlocking paid features without paying.

AI features — only with your permission

AI coaching tips, the AI paragraph in your report and the AI chat are written by Claude, an AI model from Anthropic. The first time one of them would run, the app asks you. If you say yes, your pattern summary (counts, times, triggers) and anything you type into the chat are sent to our server, which passes them to Anthropic to write the reply. Your name, email and contacts are never included. Chat messages are held in our server’s memory for the length of the conversation and are not written to our database. If you say no — or switch it off later in Account → Privacy — nothing is sent and the app uses its own written coaching instead.

Coach Call, the voice coach, is powered by Gemini, an AI model from Google, and asks for its own permission before your first call. During a call your voice and your pattern summary (counts, times, triggers and your reason for quitting) go directly from your phone to Google to hold the conversation. UrgeLock never records or stores your audio. Our server only keeps a count of the call minutes your account has used. The short notes the coach saves to remember your last call stay on your phone.

Optional account

You can use UrgeLock without an account. If you choose to sign in with Apple (iPhone) or Google (Android), we store the account ID Apple or Google gives us, your email (Apple may give a private relay address) and your name if you share it. When you tap “Open my report on the web” in the app, we also store a summary of your report — daily count, usual gap, top triggers, urges beaten and money saved — so we can show it to you at urgelock.com/me. Your individual logs stay on your phone. Delete the account at any time in Settings → Account → Delete account: the account and saved report are removed from our server straight away.

Measuring our own ads

We advertise UrgeLock on Facebook and Instagram. The Meta SDK in the app tells Meta when the app is installed or opened, when setup is finished and when a trial or subscription starts, so we can see which of our ads work, only while anonymous usage statistics are allowed (see above). It does not use your device’s advertising ID and never receives your logs, triggers, health information or messages.

When you write to us

If you email support, we keep your message and address to answer you.

4. This website

urgelock.com counts page visits so we know which pages are useful and where visitors come from (for example, a link on Instagram or a search result). These counts are anonymous: they record the page, the site or campaign that sent you, the type of device (phone, tablet or desktop) and your browser language — never your name, email address or IP address. They set no cookies.

If we use Meta’s advertising pixel or Google Analytics to measure our own ads and pages, they load only after you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time from “Cookie choices” at the foot of the page. Google Analytics runs with IP anonymisation and with Google’s advertising features turned off. The site shows no third-party advertising.

5. Early-access list

If you join the early-access or launch-reminder list on this site, we store your email address, the phone you chose (iPhone or Android), and when you signed up, so we can email you about the launch. For Android early access, Google needs the Google account (Gmail) address you gave us to invite you to test the app, so we add it to the tester list in Google Play Console, which Google processes. We do not sell, rent or share the list with anyone else. To be removed, email support@urgelock.com from that address and we will delete it within 30 days.

6. Reviews and testimonials

We may show reviews from the App Store or Google Play — which are already public — with the name the reviewer chose there, and testimonials people send us directly, only with their permission. Ask us and we will take yours down.

7. Who else is involved

  • Apple and Google — app distribution and all payments.
  • RevenueCat — subscription status.
  • Anthropic — AI text, only if you allow it.
  • Google — Coach Call voice conversations, only if you allow it.
  • Apple or Google — sign-in, only if you create an account.
  • Meta — measuring our own ads (installs, trials and subscriptions; no advertising ID).
  • Our hosting and database providers — running the server, in data centres outside India (the server itself runs in Singapore).
  • Our email provider — forwarding mail sent to our support addresses.

They may only process data to provide these services to us.

8. What we never do

  • No ads inside the app, and no use of your device’s advertising ID.
  • No selling, renting or trading your data.
  • No access to your location, contacts, photos or health records. The microphone is used only during a Coach Call you start, and audio is never recorded or stored by UrgeLock.

9. How long we keep things

Data on your phone stays until you delete it. Anonymous statistics are kept while they are useful for improving the app and are deleted or aggregated after that (app events are removed automatically after 90 days). Subscription records are kept as long as the law requires for tax and accounting.

10. Your choices

  • Turn AI off or on — Account → Privacy, at any time.
  • Turn usage statistics off or on — Account → Privacy, at any time.
  • Erase everything on your phone — Account Settings → Delete My Data.
  • Delete your account — Settings → Account → Delete account (removes it and your saved report from our server).
  • Ask us to delete server-side data — email support@urgelock.com; see Delete your data.
  • Notifications — switch off in the app or in your phone’s settings.

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or object to processing of your personal data. Write to us and we will help.

11. Children

UrgeLock is for adults trying to stop smoking or vaping. It carries an 18+ age rating and is not intended for children.

12. Changes

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date above. Significant changes will also be shown in the app.
